Getting Around the Cascade Corridor: MARTA, Driving & Parking

How to get to and around Cascade Avenue and Cascade Road in Southwest Atlanta by MARTA bus, rail, car, or on foot.

Cascade Avenue and Cascade Road run through Southwest Atlanta as a long commercial and residential corridor without a MARTA rail line running directly along it, so getting around here means combining a bus route, a nearby rail station, and — for most visitors — a car. Here's how the pieces fit together.

By MARTA bus: Route 71 (Cascade Road)

MARTA's Route 71 bus runs along the corridor, connecting Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard, Cascade Avenue, and Cascade Road out toward Boat Rock Road and Fairburn Road in the southwest, with West End Station as its rail connection point. As of recent MARTA scheduling, Route 71 runs at roughly 20-minute frequency throughout the day, operating daily. Always check MARTA's live schedule (itsmarta.com) before you travel, since routes and frequencies are periodically updated — MARTA's "Next Generation Bus Network" changes have adjusted some corridor routes in recent years.

Connecting to MARTA rail: West End Station

West End Station, on MARTA's Red and Gold rail lines, is the nearest rail connection for the Cascade corridor and the endpoint for Route 71. From West End, MARTA rail reaches Downtown Atlanta in about 4 minutes, Midtown in about 8 minutes, and Buckhead in about 20 minutes, plus a direct line to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. West End Station has a surface parking lot (around 500 spaces) if you're driving in from elsewhere and want to switch to rail.

Driving and parking

Cascade Road and Cascade Avenue are both signed, multi-lane city streets connecting to I-285 to the south and the West End/Downtown area to the north and east. Street parking is available along most of the commercial stretch of the corridor; individual businesses may also have small dedicated lots. As with most Atlanta commercial corridors, parking is easiest outside of the lunch and evening dinner rush windows. There is no paid downtown-style parking infrastructure on this stretch — parking is generally free but limited in supply directly in front of the busiest spots.

Walking and biking

The corridor is walkable in sections but is still primarily a car-oriented arterial road — sidewalks exist along most of the commercial stretch, but distances between destinations are longer than in denser, more walkable Atlanta neighborhoods like the Old Fourth Ward or Grant Park. If you're planning to walk between multiple stops, expect quarter-mile-plus gaps between some businesses. Bike infrastructure varies by block; check current conditions before relying on a bike lane for the full corridor, as street improvements have been implemented in phases over recent years and coverage is not uniform yet in all segments.

Rideshare and taxi

Uber and Lyft both operate throughout Southwest Atlanta and are a reliable option for reaching the corridor directly, especially at night or for visitors unfamiliar with the bus schedule. This is often the simplest option if you're coming from elsewhere in the city for a single event or meal.

A simple plan if you don't have a car

Take MARTA rail to West End Station (Red or Gold Line), then transfer to the Route 71 bus, which runs directly along Cascade Road and Cascade Avenue at approximately 20-minute intervals throughout the day. Check itsmarta.com for the current timetable before you go, since exact stop times and any service changes are best confirmed day-of.
